About Us
Nestled next to the Missouri River just west of Yankton, Midway Gulch Campground & Cabins is a privately owned hidden gem of South Dakota.
We're a seasonal campground with 35 shaded full hook-up permanent RV sites and 7 rustic log cabins available for daily, weekend, weekly, or monthly stays. Cabin rentals are available year-round.

If you have ever seen that movie “We Bought a Zoo,” well, We Bought a Campground! For the Stengrim Family camping, boating, and the outdoors has been a way of life. Like most families the early days were in a tent, upgrading to a cab-over-camper, and then a trailer with slide outs.
With a camper and boat in tow, every weekend turned into a military-like deployment with a caravan of vehicles to get all the toys & stuff back and forth to the state park. In 2022 we found a permanent spot at a campground right across from the Lewis & Clark State Park and Marina west of Yankton.
What Happened Next
After staying our first weekend and not having to pack up everything to go home, we were hooked. That first summer in casual passing we mentioned to the owner, “hey if you ever think about selling this place, please let us know.” Near the end of the camping season in 2023, Jeff asked us if we were still interested. While Tom was deployed with the Navy in 2024, we came to an agreement and purchased Midway Gulch Campground in February 2025.
With Stacie from Reservations leading the way as Upper Management, Tom from Maintenance completes work orders every day to keep the campground running smoothly.
This is a family lifestyle business and we feel truly blessed to be working outside each day at this Hidden Gem of South Dakota.

We have residents that have been here since opening in 1997. We are home to 3rd generation families. Midway Gulch isn't just a place to park your camper or sleep off a day on the lake...it's an amazing little community. We're the kind of place where neighbors wave, kids are smiling, you'll hear the sound of laughter, and the smell of the campfire.
